First, let’s see how Software Testing is defined. Software Testing is the process consisting of all life cycle activities; static and dynamic, concerned with planning, preparation and evaluation of software products and related work products to determine that they satisfy specified requirements, to demonstrate that they are fit for purpose and to detect defects."

In general, testing refers to verifying or checking or examining the Object or event or anything with respect to their specifications or requirements or needs. For example, If you want to buy a used car, the main things you look for are if it’s the best available used car within your needs or specifications consisting Engine condition, The total number of kilometers it has covered, Wheel balancing, Price within the budget, Mileage, Comfort, Color, Fuel to be used, Power steering facility, etc.

Now, Let’s see what CID agents does : They investigate the circumstances and facts surrounding each case to determine what findings the evidence supports in a thorough and professional manner with sensitivity toward the needs of victims and witnesses.

The common process performed by a Tester and a CID agent is "INVESTIGATION" through different techniques or methods which include 1H and 6W's:

Both processes are done by carrying out all the above approaches. Let us try to understand how software testers and CID agents use these 1H and 6W’s in real time environment:

1. How to test? 2. What to test? 3. Why to test? 4. When to test? 5. Where to test? 6. Which to test? 7. Who should test?	How to Solve the Case? What actually happened? Why did it happen? When did it happen?           Where did it happen? Under Which Circumstances it  Happened? Who is responsible?

Both perform the same process of investigation.  A software tester tests the software product or application to find bugs where as a CID agent investigates to find evidence.

Thus, every Tester is a CID agent.
